METERING SOLUTIONS

ATC&C/Boundary Metering

Meinergy Technology Ltd has developed a mature loss management platform ATC&C (Aggregate Technical, Commercial & Collection) to monitor, locate and analysis a combination of different technical and non-technical losses. It represents overall and individual losses based on 4 different resources (feeder, transformer area, voltage level & zone). In case there is no access to some metering nodes over lack of communication channel in meter, an advanced HHU can collect data and immediately transfer to HES over cellular 3G/4G network.

The ATC&C system represents a revenue protection concept over 3 mature individual platforms:

  1. Technical loss based on fixed elements of network equipment and following calculation methods like lines and transformers
  2. Commercial loss based on almost all kind of non-technical loss like tampers, faulty meters, incorrect readout & etc.
  3. Collection loss based on overdue or any missing of electricity bill.

This platform developed for several applications that are common resources of loss in all distribution networks like distribution lines, distribution transformers, boundary areas, current transformers and end-user AMR/AMI meters.

Key Benefits

  1. Effectively enhancing utilities investment capabilities
  2. Accurate demand planning
  3. Tamper reduction
  4. Outage risks reduction
  5. Efficient asset management
Commercial and Industrial

Utility companies have different customers that are categorized based on required demand. End user customers are mostly divided into two groups, Residential and Industrial. Residential customers are huge in numbers but small in revenue in comparison to Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers which are few in numbers but big in revenue. Utility companies always face many challenges to monitor especially Industrial customers, for example. It is difficult tracking illegal tampering using field visit and inspects, which in turn cause high commercial losses to the Utility company. Delayed bill payments incur high bad debts, and High asset fail risk occur in the case of over loading (transformer).

Overview

Meinergy Technology Ltd.’s smart Customer & Industrial (C&I) metering solution integrates a broad portfolio of devices, IT hardware and software to block revenue leakages along the power distribution chain. The architecture is comprised of three layers:

Layer 1 – Low Voltage Side: A Meinergy-designed smart meter and enclosure with complete anti-tamper facilities. It also features a prepayment solution for small C&I customers with an external breaker to disconnect power supply whenever the credit runs off.

Layer 2- Median Voltage Side: In the MV side, Meinergy provides an integrated metering solution with combined CT/PT devices. A MV metering suite is installed at the primary side of the transformer, which makes it difficult for end user to touch and perform any illegal manipulation.

Layer 3- Master Station: This Meinergy C&I solution includes a multi-vendor HES. It supports interaction with MDM, CIS and other legacy systems.

Key Benefits

  • Auto disconnection to protect the asset in case of overload
  • Remind or Pressure end users to pay the energy bill.
  • MV (Medium Voltage) metering and monitoring prevents power theft.
  • Support Prepayment to eliminate bad debt.
  • Extends DSM (Demand Side Management) to large power users.
Transformer Monitoring System

Losing each distribution transformer normally at the peak time will result in reduced total revenue as well as customer satisfaction. On the biggest benefits of such transformers is that they provide cost-effective monitoring and live tracking to prevent any downturns and transformer failure.

Solution Overview

Meinergy Technology Ltd.’s Transformer Monitoring System (TMS) is designed based on the state-of-the-art multi-functional gateway, which accurately measures electrical parameters of transformer’ LV side, manages belonging smart PLC or RF residential meters (as a DCU) and monitors transformer’ oil or even control relevant feeder/transformer (up to 800A).

This advanced TMS unit has 2 types, in the event that a utility service either wants to monitor the transformer and manage smart meters or wants to monitor the transformer, manage smart meters with the extra ability of remote switching. The Basic unit measures the secondary side of transformer via portable Rogowski CTs while the Advanced type does same measurement but via normal split-core CTs installed in the box. Collected load, network and oil data will be securely transferred to the utility over a GPRS/3G/4G or even an Ethernet cable.

Except for asset management, which is the main concern of the Meinergy TMS, there are other applications like peak shaving, loss monitoring (a key tool of ATC&C system) and feeder monitoring, all of which is available to optimize a smart grid structure.

Key Benefits

  • Enhancing network reliability
  • Outage reduction
  • Asset optimization
  • Demand management
  • Installation and commissioning’ costs reduction through unique combined TMS unit (DCU+TMU+CB)
  • Facilitation of distribution network’ manoeuvre
  • Load balancing Enhancement
  • Street lighting management
Outtage Management System

Outage Management Systems (OMS) are used in monitoring and reduce outage durations and help electricity utilities to allocate resources for system restorations. It can be integrated to (GIS), incorporated with (AMR, AMI) and many more from such a comprehensive system. Utilities are used to facing many challenges, such as, rethinking response modules to trouble/emergency calls; Discovering, locating and resolution of   power outages in a more informed, orderly, efficient and timely manner; Becoming aware of power outages early and with greater precision.

Solution Review

Meinergy’s Outage Management Systems enable utilities to live-track outages. It effectively reduces the outage time and even assists Utilities to evaluate the restoration process. Our Outage management system (OMS) is a mature software platform which, monitors, manages and analyses outages in a distribution network. The main application systems consist of SCADA/DMS/OMS/MFWM, which provides real-time and management services.

Key Benefits

  • Handle More timely, accurate, organized, displayed data by information management function.
  • Improve organization and efficiency in the dispatch center.
  • Managing natural Disaster by prioritizing the restoration, provide better information for public safety.
  • Ensure the security of data and information.
  • Unified support platform: Systems such as SCADA/DMS/OMS.
Substation Automation System

The Substation Automation System (SAS) is a full automated monitoring and controlling system designed for generation, transmission and distribution substations to precisely track the situation of equipment and unexpected faults. This advanced platform digitizes various manual operations into one resilient structure based on IEC61970, IEC61968, IEC61850 and IEC60870 series standards.

Meinergy Technology Ltd.’s SAS as a complementary part of a smart distribution package delivers automated management systems to Utility companies, centralizing a wide variety of enhanced monitoring, protection, controlling and stabilizing functions.

It works based on a mature SCADA platform and several subsidiary objects such as a protocol converter to fully operate a substation and equipment like protection relays, BCU, CBs & other measurement devices.

Meinergy’s SAS has an important role in managing various types of generation (power plants), transmission and distribution substations.

Key Benefits

  1. Improving substation management process
  2. Facilitation monitoring and protection processes
  3. Maximizing failure prevention by fast and accurate monitoring
  4. Optimizing substation crew’ operational performance
  5. Enhancing voltage and frequency quality
  6. Remote accessibility to substations from control center and web application
